Look for our updates and announcements posted throughout the season at Fairfax’s NVSL dive page.

Important information is also posted at NVSL-Dive’s homepage.

The dive team is getting ready for another fun-filled summer season! In 2010, we'll be competing in Division 2 with Donaldson Run, Lee Graham, Mansion House, Mantua and Sideburn Run. We’ll also host the All-Star Dive Championship meet on August 8!

Kenny McAdoo will be returning as our head coach. Kenny is a recent WVU graduate with a degree in multidisciplinary studies. He has been a WVU diver, a club diver with Patriot Dive Club, and an NVSL all-star diver.  Kenny dove for Fairfax for 10 years. This will be his 8th year as a Fairfax coach.Photo of diver.

We will have Ethan Paster and Zach Patteson returning for their fifth year as our assistant coaches. Ethan just completed his freshman year at St. Louis University where he is studying physical therapy. Ethan is a member of the Billiken’s dive team and competed in the Atlantic 10 Conference meet. He was a member of the Fairfax dive team for 8 years and also dove for Fairfax High School. Zach just finished his freshman year studying engineering at Virginia Tech. He dove this season with the H2Okies and competed in the Atlantic Coast Conference meet. Zach was a Fairfax diver for 12 years. He was a club diver with Patriot Dive Club and dove for Fairfax High School, earning All-America status.

This summer, we’ll be using TIVO to let the kids see themselves diving on “instant replay.” A “Spirit Award” will be given to two divers who support their fellow Frogs and show the most team spirit throughout the summer. We’ll also be awarding an “Age Group Challenge” trophy to those divers who master a list of dives specific to their age group. We’ll have more details on the requirements for these awards at the beginning of the season.

Photo of diver. We hope a lot of our divers will return from last season, and also hope to add new members. We have practices every weekday and our dual meets are on Tuesday evenings. We also have a few special meets on Sunday mornings toward the end of the season.

If your child is interested in the dive team, please bring them to practice during the first several weeks to give it a try. They do not need any previous experience—just a willingness to jump off the board and the ability to swim back to the side. Joining the dive team is a great way to learn how to use the board safely while being supervised by experienced coaches.

Being a member of the dive team is a lot of fun. The dive team participates in a number of social activities with the swimmers, such as movies at the pool, talent shows, bowling and dessert socials. The swim and dive teams are a great way to get involved with your community and to keep the kids busy and active during the summer.Photo of divers on float.

We will be having a pre-season registration for swim and dive on Sunday, May 16. The swim and dive reps will be at the pool from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  Registration fees are $85 for one swimmer/diver, $135 for 2 swimmers/divers or $175 for 3 or more swimmers/divers per family. The fee entitles the athlete to compete with the swim team, the dive team, or both teams.

Suit Up will be at registration with this year’s suit for the athletes to try on and purchase. This will be the second and final year for this suit (Speedo Galaxy in green). It is not mandatory to wear the team suit at meets. We will also have samples and order forms for the team shirt.

Volunteers would be welcomed for various positions, with extra volunteers needed to run the All-Star dive meet concession stand this year. If you’d like to help out, contact Mary Stinnett for information.

To get a jump on the summer dive season, check out the Fairfax County Park Authority “Parktakes” catalog for springboard lessons at Oak Marr and Audrey Moore RECenters. Patriot Dive Club at GMU also has pre-summer lessons available. Dominion Dive Club and Alexandria Dive Club are other area dive clubs which practice at Oak Marr RECenter and Lee District RECenter, respectively.
